What is FAITH?

-It’s a fruit. AND it’s a gift. AND it’s…a substance… (Gal. 5:22, 1 Corinthians. 12:9)

1-The FRUIT of Faith will be evidence that you’re growing into a fullness of God’s word being deposited in you, and having had His Word to wash you minds. (Romans 12:2, Ephesians 5:26)

2-The GIFT of Faith is a Spirit-gifting through His Grace to believe for the impossible to happen. (Mark 10:27, 

1 Corinthians 12:9)

3-The Substance of Faith:

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)

“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Romans 10:17

Faith comes by hearing the Word of God, therefore FAITH is a Real-Time EVIDENCE that you’re hearing from God. 

TWO THINGS:

1-Having a full meal on your stomach will illicit a response from your gut to stop eating, you’re FULL. Therefore the more we are daily ingesting His Word, we should be increasing our capacity to believe.The Word of God is the food of faith. “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4)

2-We have been created to hear. We are sheep in His pasture. Why do sheep follow their Shepherd? Because they know His voice and they follow Him! (John 10:3-4,27) We spoke of this inner voice last semester: it sounds like YOUR voice, but it’s the Holy Spirit talking to us, He says everything He hears that is relevant to us at the moment. (John 16:13)

Next thought:

“Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear” Hebrews 11:3

“By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.” “For He spoke and it was done; He commanded, and it stood still.” Psalms 33:6, 9

By the SPOKEN word of God (Dabar)

By the breath of His mouth (ruak/ruach:breath,wind,Spirit)

Last thing:

There is something SO POWERFULLY unique about God’s Words, I at times liken them to packets of Light/Truth/Spirit/Life/Presence/Elements of Warfare.

“The entrance of your words gives light, it gives understanding to the simple.” (Psalms 119:130)

“For with you is the fountain of life: in your light will we see light.” (Psalms 36:9)

Before the written Word, we only had the spoken Words from the voice of God. (Gen.26:5)
